In a day of fleeting highlights for the Sydney Swans, Dan Hannebery’s attack on the ball in the first quarter of yesterday’s game against Carlton had been adjudged the SwansTV Play of the Day for round 13.
The Swans needed a lift after squandering an early three goal lead, and the reigning AFL Rising Star put his body on the line in a contest with Carlton ruckman Matthew Kreuzer - even though Hannebery was giving up 23 kilograms to his opponent.
Concerns for what initially looked like a game ending clash for Hannebery were quickly alleviated as the young Swans bounced back to his feet and continued in the play.
The ball eventually spilt free and a chain of handpasses from the Blues saw them about to launch an attack along the wing. Hannebery again stepped in, effecting a smother and gathering the loose ball, before driving it inside the Swans forward 50.
The commitment and effort shown by Hannebery epitomised why he is held in such high regard at the Swans.
