MELBOURNE has extended the contract of back-up ruckman Jake Spencer, tying him to the club until the end of 2017.
The 27-year-old has played 36 games since making his debut in 2009, and is noted for his enormous competitiveness.
He made a late start to the season after suffering a foot injury, but returned to the Casey Scorpions two weeks ago.
Spencer played well last week and is a handy back-up for in-form ruckman Max Gawn.
Demons' football manager Josh Mahoney told the club website that the popular big man was an important player at the club.
"Jake has shown in his time at Melbourne that he's capable at AFL level," Mahoney said.
"He's had a frustrating run with injuries, but we think having Jake as part of our ruck division is important for the club, given his age and experience."
