HAWTHORN has appointed Damian Carroll as the new head of coaching and development.
It is a role the Hawks haven’t filled since early 2013 when Chris Fagan took over as general manager of football following Mark Evans joining the AFL in a similar role.
Carroll will take over managing the performance and development of all the coaches at Hawthorn.
He was the forward line coach for part of 2015 and all of last season and was formerly the coach of the Box Hill Hawks.
The Hawks have also given new responsibilities to David Rath, who together with fitness coach Andrew Russell is the only remaining assistant who joined the club with Alastair Clarkson in 2004.
Rath becomes head of football strategy and innovation with responsibilities for IT and analytics as well as skill acquisition and biomechanics.
Brett Ratten, Adem Yze and Cameron Bruce will continue as line coaches, with their positions to be finalised shortly ahead of the start of pre-season training later this month.
