WEST Coast expects ruckman Scott Lycett to be available for round one next season despite going under the knife next week for surgery on his injured posterior cruciate ligament.
Lycett suffered a PCL injury mid-season but played the last 10 matches of the year despite battling severe soreness in round 23 and the elimination final.
He required a painkilling injection in the knee during the second term of the loss to the Bulldogs last week.
Lycett was sent to Melbourne on Wednesday to consult with surgeon Julian Feller on his PCL injury. The Eagles have not had a severe PCL injury since Michael Gardiner was cruelled in 2004.
A full PCL reconstruction requires anywhere between six and 12 months recovery but the Eagles expect Lycett to play a full season next year.
Hawthorn skipper Luke Hodge had PCL surgery in October 2012 but returned to play in round two 2013 and played 23 matches for the season.
By contrast, Fremantle's 200cm young key forward Michael Apeness had a PCL reconstruction in 2015 and missed 12 months.
Nic Naitanui is already set to miss the majority of 2017 as he recovers from his ACL reconstruction.
The Eagles will still continue to look at all ruck options during the trade and free agency period given Naitanui, Lycett and Jonathan Giles are the only 200cm-plus ruckmen on the list.
Greater Western Sydney tall Rory Lobb remains a target although it appears unlikely he will be traded given he is contracted with the Giants for 2017.
Delisted North Melbourne veteran Drew Petrie, Fremantle free agent Zac Clarke and Western Bulldogs free agent Will Minson remain options for the Eagles.
Meanwhile, All Australian defender Jeremy McGovern has had post-season shoulder surgery. He had been battling an AC joint issue in his left shoulder since round one but was able to play 22 of 23 games. McGovern will be right to go for the pre-season.
Coleman medallist Josh Kennedy had a hernia operation the day after the Eagles' elimination final loss to the Western Bulldogs. It was a minor procedure to fix a problem he had been carrying for the last seven weeks of the season and it won't affect his summer.
