WEST Coast midfielder Matt Rosa wants out, but the club says the 28-year-old is going nowhere.

Rosa requested a trade earlier this week, but with one year remaining on his contract, West Coast list manager Craig Vozzo says the Eagles are adamant he will be playing for the runner-up in 2016.

Speaking on Perth radio station 6PR on Saturday, Vozzo confirmed Gold Coast was interested in Rosa, but said his request had come as a shock.

"I was surprised and we were as a club that we're in this position," Vozzo said.

"Having said that, we have to respect that's what he's requested, but he has to respect as well he's a contracted player and we prepared and planned our list around him being on it.

"We had discussions with Matthew and his management over a year ago when he was an unrestricted free agent around where the club was heading and where he fitted in and nothing's changed in our view."

Rosa has played 168 games for West Coast, including 17 in 2015.

However, he was the substitute four times, including the Grand Final.

West Coast has bolstered its midfield depth in the NAB AFL Trade Period with the acquisition of Brisbane Lion Jack Redden and Sydney Swans speedster Lewis Jetta.

Vozzo said he was hopeful of talking Rosa around, as the Eagles did with defender Mitch Brown three years ago after he was refused a trade request to St Kilda.

"At the time there was some initial discontent (at staying) … but we couldn’t ask for a better person to represent our club right now in terms of Mitch Brown."
