GOLD Coast coach Rodney Eade hopes Saturday night's 26-point triumph over Fremantle is a coming of age for the fledgling club.
The Suns outclassed last year's minor premiers at Domain Stadium to start the season with consecutive wins for the first time in their six-year AFL history.
When told skipper Gary Ablett had described the 19.12 (126) to 14.16 (100) victory as the club's best ever, Eade said: "A few people said that after the game. I think, you don't want to say too many accolades, but hopefully it's a coming of age."
"They (Fremantle) are a very good side. They've been in the finals a long time, and we knew that at half-time we were nearly five (goals) up, but that they were going to come again and they did like good sides do.

"That was the most pleasing thing, not the footy we played in the second quarter, but our ability to withstand the pressure and still be able to score as well."
Eade took the coaching reins at Gold Coast last year and endured a tumultuous first season derailed by an injury crisis and off-field behavioural issues. The club won only four games.
The Perth venue has been a graveyard for opposition teams in recent seasons, but Eade praised his charges for taking the game on until the final siren.
Leading by 29 points at half-time, the Suns had to withstand several Fremantle resurrections in the third and fourth terms, but did not let their advantage slip below three goals after the long break.
"We, at times, thought about having an extra player in defence, but I don't think that was going to work," Eade said.
"We did that in the last three or four minutes when I think both teams were cramping. It was a fairly hectic pace.
"But other than that the other guys still played, they put pressure on and we tried to score. Scoring is the best form of defence in many ways."

Young forwards Tom Lynch and Jack Martin were outstanding for the visitors, booting nine goals between them.
Tall target Lynch, who finished with five majors, always looked dangerous, while Martin found plenty of space to cause headaches for Fremantle.
Eade said the pair had been "terrific".
"Tom and Jack haven't been kicking straight for goal. They've done a lot of work on it and I suppose internally, we know they have, and have done a bit of education with it and (worked on) a fair bit of technique and a fair bit of training and I think that bore through tonight," Eade said.
"They were able to cap off their great efforts by kicking straight, but they looked dangerous.
GAMEBREAKER: Big night for Suns' big man
"Tom's obviously a terrific leader and Jack last week had seven tackles inside 50. There's times you don't notice Jack. He has 10 possessions and has a real impact on the game and I think he was able to capitalise on that tonight by impacting on the scoreboard."
The Suns take on Carlton at Metricon Stadium next Saturday night, before a clash with Brisbane at the Gabba in round four.
