WHO IS your local Brownlow legend?
We've mapped all 100 medallists by their original club to reveal footy's Brownlow breeding grounds.
• In South Australia, look no further than West Adelaide, the proud home of three Brownlow winners in Adam Cooney, Bernie Smith and Mark Ricciuto.
• East Fremantle has a claim to Western Australian bragging rights. Simon Black, Shane Woewodin and Ben Cousins all launched their AFL careers from East Fremantle Oval.
• The traditional footy strongholds in suburban Melbourne are well represented. Five medallists were recruited from Essendon; four from South Melbourne. Four hail from Kew or North Kew.
Three clubs in Brunswick, in Melbourne's inner north, bred four medallists including 1990 winner Tony Liberatore, two-time champ Keith Greig and 1933's Wilf 'Chicken' Smallhorn.
• Outside the capitals, Albury is an unlikely hotspot.
That's largely thanks to Haydn Bunton, who won three Brownlows after joining Fitzroy from West Albury in the 1930s. However Bunton isn't the only winner from the Victorian/NSW border town, whose population hovered around 10,000 in the '30s. The year after Bunton's final Brownlow win in 1935, the medal returned to Albury courtesy of Bunton's Fitzroy teammate Denis 'Dinny' Ryan.
• If you're anywhere in the northern hemisphere, there's only one Brownlow Medal winner who'll qualify as local. You'll find that particular footy great by navigating to Dublin, Ireland.
