AARON Young will happily remain at Alberton in 2018 if Port Adelaide can't trade him, as the Power work to re-home ruckman Matthew Lobbe and midfielder Brendon Ah Chee.
Young, 24, was the Power's second-highest goal-kicker in 2016, but managed just 13 games this year and spent much of the second half of the season in the SANFL.
He's out of contract, but looks poised to accept a new one-year deal with the Power if they can't trade him to a club where he'll get more AFL opportunities.
"I've loved my time at Port and they've been really good to me, and they've said I can go out and explore," Young said on NAB AFL Trade Radio on Monday.
"I really feel for the blokes who probably don't have that fallback, that if there aren't some things out there, I'm happy to go back to Port and play another season there.
"There's guys who are probably going to be without a club and a job; for me, it's a little easier, but the uncertainty is hard to deal with at times.
"Everyone just wants to play AFL football, and if there's an opportunity out there to play more games, most people would jump at that."
Young has met with Gold Coast, and Suns' list manager Scott Clayton has confirmed their interest in his services.
Lobbe, who has fallen behind Paddy Ryder in the Power's favoured ruck structure and didn't appear at AFL level at all in 2017, has also attracted interest from the Suns and their Queensland counterparts the Brisbane Lions.
However, he appears more likely to find a home at the Lions if he leaves Alberton, with Clayton claiming a play for him "wasn't clear cut".
Lobbe has two years to run on his contract, but Power list manager Jason Cripps said they would actively help to find him a new club.
"He's given enormous service to our football club and was very influential in the last five years when Ken Hinkley came in and we were at our lowest point in the history of the club," Cripps said.
"He's played a significant part in rebuilding our club with Ken.
"We will do everything we can to get 'Lobes' a new home.
"It does make it more difficult because he's contracted, but we'll do our best to make it happen."
It doesn't seem like there are as many hurdles standing in the way of Ah Chee moving home to a West Australian-based club, with Cripps certain Port will be able to facilitate a trade with West Coast.
"I spoke to West Coast last night and we're working though that," he said.
"We had the greatest run in history this year with no injuries, which made it difficult for guys like 'Arch' to get an opportunity.
"We think he's got a lot of upside and real talent … as a football club, we don't want to be difficult and we're mindful of the fact 'Arch' is a fantastic person.
"He's from WA, has family back there, and has the chance to go and play AFL footy, and we'll do everything we can to make it easy for him because he's a fantastic person.
"We'll be able to facilitate that trade, I'm certain of that."
The Power are still hopeful of securing Melbourne's Jack Watts, but believe the Cats are "still in the game" despite their recent claim they aren't in a position to deal.
Clayton also said the Suns had parked talks with Geelong regarding Gary Ablett for a few days out of respect to the family, who are grieving the death of Ablett's sister Natasha.
