FORMER Essendon skipper Mark 'Bomber' Thompson remains welcome at the club's 1993 premiership reunion next week, but the club has not heard if he will attend the function.

The Bombers will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their 1993 flag next Thursday night at the MCG.

AFL.com.au understands the club will welcome Thompson, who was captain of the 1993 triumph, to the event if he chooses to attend despite the string of drug-related charges he was hit with this week by Victoria Police.

However, the Bombers have not been made aware if the three-time premiership star and former coach intends to be there.

It is believed the Bombers expect their former coach James Hird to attend the function, with Hird previously stating he would be there if not overseas at the time.

It would be Hird's first official appearance at the club since departing as coach at the end of 2015 after a turbulent three seasons, due to the eruption of the supplements saga.

Thompson, who crossed from Geelong at the end of 2010 to be Hird's lieutenant in the Essendon coaching box, fronted the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Tuesday after being hit with seven drug-related offences this week.

His Port Melbourne residence was raided earlier this year. The two-time Geelong premiership coach is due back in court on May 25.

Thompson played 202 games for the Bombers in a decorated career between 1983 and 1996, including their 1984-85 and 1993 premierships.
