Hi again kids,

Well, all we Lions players are about to scatter to all parts of Australia and the world on our holidays, but we will still be staying in shape.

In this professional age, you cannot afford to let your fitness and health slip, and we will still be very aware of coming back for the start of pre-season in good nick.

That’s not to say that we won’t be enjoying ourselves, but there will be plenty of kilometres covered nonetheless.

It’s a lot different to when you are a kid, although many of you will be keeping fit anyway by playing other sports.

I loved my basketball when I was younger and that certainly kept my fitness levels up nice and high for the footy season.

From what people tell me, several of the footy codes are keen on keeping kids involved in their sport all year round now.

That’s all well and good, but I’ve been told there is also research out there that says it doesn’t do any harm to play a number of sports.

Watch Blacky play and you notice his own basketball skills come to the fore on occasions, particularly the one-handed bounce occasionally when he’s running with the ball.

As professional players, we are not allowed to play any other sports where we might injure ourselves, but there’s nothing stopping you guys.

A number of sports complement each other and most ball sports improve your hand-to-eye coordination anyway.

In saying that, there’s nothing wrong with getting the footy out over summer and keeping your ‘touch’ if you are that keen.

Thanks for reading my pieces and see you all at the start of the new footy season.
