SYDNEY Swans assistant coach John Blakey says Adam Goodes' new role in the forward line, which yielded eight goals against Fremantle last weekend, is more about the dual Brownlow medallist's bad run of luck with injury than tactics.
Goodes has been struggling with a groin injury and Blakey insists that if that were not the case, he would be in his regular midfield berth.
"It looks like a luxury to put a player of Adam's quality standing in the goal square but realistically we're putting him in a position which his body will allow him to play in," Blakey says.
"If he was fit and ready to run through the midfield, there's no doubt we would have had him in there last weekend."
This Saturday the Swans take on reigning premiers Geelong at ANZ Stadium, and despite the fact that the teams will meet again in week one of the finals if Swans can hold on to their top four position, Blakey says there will be no holding back on personnel against the Cats.
"There's not going to be any question of holding anything back. We'll put our best team on the field and we'll be doing everything we possibly can to win because we need to beat them to stay in the top four.
"I don't think they'll be holding anything back either. They'll play the same quality football which they have done for the past few years."
