NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott has refused to blame Fremantle's match committee for his side's failed tilt at the finals.

The Roos beat West Coast by 16 points at Subiaco Oval on Sunday, but were locked out of the finals thanks to Hawthorn's win on Saturday over a Fremantle side which fielded less than half of its best 22.

North is likely to finish the season in ninth position on the AFL ladder - the spot it currently holds by four points and a healthy percentage gap from 10th-placed Port Adelaide.

"We can only concentrate on us and we let an opportunity slip last week against St Kilda," Scott said after Sunday's robust win.

"We take responsibility for that. I don’t worry about [Fremantle's] selection, but I would say that people have been quick to criticise when they have no idea as to the health and status of Fremantle's list.

"I know that Stephen Hill and Anthony Morabito have played every game this year, so how Fremantle manage their list is completely up to them.

"It's premature for people to criticise them when they have no idea as to the health of their players. It doesn’t concern us in the slightest."

Club champion Brent Harvey was the centre of attention as he notched 300 games, but Scott also paid tribute to young midfielder Leigh Adams.

Adams, 22, returned to the field after being shirtfronted in the first quarter by Eagle Beau Waters, who was reported for the incident, only to take another big knock soon after.

"We got an enormous boost out of Leigh Adams coming back out," Scott said.

"He is just a really highly-rated and respected player within our team so to see him go down made the boys very keen to respond.

"I thought we had lost him for the game early, but by half time he was up and moving around and was good enough to back on.

"He then copped that other knock, though, so we expect him to spend the night in hospital in Perth and fly back hopefully tomorrow."
