THE ADELAIDE Crows will ignore a "gentleman's agreement" with Kurt Tippett to broker the "best commercial deal" for the club.

On Saturday, Tippett's manager Peter Blucher called on the Crows to honour the handshake agreement to allow the 25-year-old to be traded to the Sydney Swans via the Gillette AFL Trade Period.

But the Herald Sun reports that Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman has told his recruiting staff the agreement would have only applied if Tippett was returning to his native Queensland.

Cold water has also been poured on another proposed trade that would see Collingwood premiership pair Sharrod Wellingham and Chris Dawes join Melbourne in return for pick No.4 in the NAB AFL National Draft.

But The Age reports that Wellingham's manager Carlos Da Costa is adamant his client wants to return home to Perth and play with West Coast.

Former Demon Brent Moloney is warming to the idea of a transfer to the Brisbane Lions.

Moloney's manager Bruce Kaider revealed that just three clubs remain in the hunt for the unrestricted free agent.

The Lions' national talent manager Rob Kerr told Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Thursday his club would look to Moloney if it failed to entice Tippett north.

Meanwhile, the Herald Sun reports that Port Adelaide is now trying to snare Essendon forward Angus Monfries through a trade rather than free agency.

In a deal that would benefit both clubs, the Bombers would receive compensation for the restricted free agent, while the Power would retain the draft compensation package it will receive for losing Troy Chaplin to Richmond and Danyle Pearce to Fremantle.
