Coach Brad Scott said it was the reason the Kangaroos blew Gold Coast away in skipper Brent 'Boomer' Harvey's record-breaking 312th game for the club.
North Melbourne kicked the first seven goals for the match and, despite losing the clearances count, was never seriously challenged in the 59-point win.
"It is a given at North Melbourne now, it has always been the way, I think the club does a great job of honouring its champions," Scott said.
"The players responded last week (in the win against Adelaide) and they did again this week, Boomer thinks he is going to break the record every week."
It is a change from the mentality of other clubs, who tend to play down milestones, but Scott said he saw no reason why the five-time Syd Barker medallist's achievements should not be saluted.
"It's extra motivation for players to do their best, I think it is a really good thing to honour milestones," Scott said.
"It gives us a chance to highlight how important these players are."
Scott was pleased with the big win, particularly the way his team followed instructions and did not let the Suns back into the game.
"I was really pleased with the way they started, we didn't for a second underestimate the Suns," he said.
"We were fortunate to have Andrew Swallow (21 disposals) and Daniel Wells (33 disposals, including 15 in the first quarter) leading the way for [Levi] Greenwood and [Ryan] Bastinac.
"I think the improvement has been steady over the past month."
Souring the win, forward Lachlan Hansen was sent to hospital with concussion while Shaun Atley received a knock to his knee, although is expected to play next week.
"Hansen looked ok, he has got the headaches and we have sent him off for observation," Scott said.
"Atley looked like he was going to have a break-out game and then he had a knock to the knee."
