"I was thinking about it just the other night, running onto Visy Park with Chris Judd and Brendan Fevola," he said on Wednesday at Blues training.
"It's pretty amazing. Hopefully I can get alongside them and play a few games."
Yarran was talking to the media flanked by the three other baby Blues to now call Carlton home – Mitch Robinson, Rhys O'Keefe and Caleb Tiller.
Yarran, Carlton's first selection (No.6) in the NAB AFL Draft, believes he can slot immediately into the Blues forward line using his strongest assets – his goal sense and defensive pressure – but he is not placing too many expectations on himself for 2009.
"I'm just thankful Carlton drafted me at pick 6, I'm pretty thrilled about that," he said.
Yarran's stellar season with Swan Districts in the WAFL, kicking 39 goals from 13 matches, has sparked comparisons with Hawthorn's NAB Rising Star runner-up Cyril Rioli, and he is hoping he can make a similar impact in the navy blue.
While not being drawn into comparisons to Rioli, recruiting manager Wayne Hughes believes Yarran has not only the talent to help spearhead Brendan Fevola up forward, but the capacity to play in the heart of the midfield as well.
"(He is) certainly a similar player – he is going to add to our forward line and make it more dangerous," Hughes said.
"When he's aerobically stronger he can push into the midfield."
