TEAMS Tigers lose dual flag forward, ex-Swan to debut for Pies

In a player led move, the Pies and Tigers will show their solidarity for the worldwide cause against systemic racism.

It is understood the Tigers' reserves took a knee before their scratch match played against the Pies at the MCG on Wednesday night.

A similar theme is expected across the weekend at all AFL matches.

The AFL has an awareness of the movement from the clubs discussed on Wednesday and is in full support. 

The Black Lives Matter protests returned in the United States after the death of George Floyd last month and have followed in Australia. 

Hawthorn star Chad Wingard, who will face Geelong on Friday night, has been one of several AFL players to shine a light on racial inequality in Australia in recent weeks. 

A number of clubs have shown their solidarity at training in recent days.

AFLPA CEO Paul Marsh said he hoped the moment would help better educate the community.

"The AFL Players' Association is proud of the leadership shown by the league's indigenous players, and the playing group more broadly, in signaling their intention to support the Black Lives Matter movement during Round 2," he said.

"We encourage the community to support the players by investing in building a greater understanding of the issues that have led to them taking this action. 

"Unfortunately, racism still plagues our community and we hope this moment helps to better educate as well as making it clear to all that discrimination in any form is completely unacceptable."
