ADELAIDE defender Matthew Jaensch has been rewarded for his breakout 2014 season, signing a new two-year deal with the club that will keep him at West Lakes until the end of 2016.

Jaensch has played every game this year off half-back, averaging 21 disposals a match.

 

His stellar form comes off the back of a tough pre-season and a 2013 campaign when his passion for the sport wavered.

 

The 24-year-old managed just 11 games for the Crows last season and never gathered more than 20 possessions.

 

He recently told AFL.com.au advice from teammate and best friend Taylor Walker had helped him rediscover his love for football.

 

"I have always worked hard, but this season I have strived to achieve a new level of fitness," Jaensch said.

 

"I am really enjoying my footy and know I have a lot more improvement.

 

"I owe a fair bit to our defensive coach Darren Milburn and Daniel Talia, who have really guided and challenged me this year."

 

Crows head of football David Noble said Jaensch's gruelling pre-season had helped him fulfil his potential.

 

"He always had the talent but we are now starting to see consistency in performance," Noble said.

 

"Given an injury-free run, he has emerged as a key part of our exciting young backline."
