WEST Coast coach John Worsfold says the nine-game penalty handed to St Kilda tagger Steven Baker makes sense under current AFL rules, which have been spelled out to all clubs.

St Kilda only contested one of Baker’s four charges this week and the club chose not to challenge the final decision on Wednesday morning.

Nonetheless, the AFL Tribunal has come under fire for alleged inconsistencies this season, with the length of Baker’s ban hard for some to fathom.

Worsfold said the ban added up and he defended the revamped tribunal, saying it was “probably ahead” of the previous system.

“If you did the sums and followed what it says in the tribunal book that everyone’s got, that’s what it adds up to,” Worsfold said of Baker’s ban.

“I just believe in following the rules. We play by the rules of the day and that’s what we’ve got to wear.

“Everyone’s got an opinion every time, my opinion is to cop what you cop and get on with it.

“I think it’s been fairly consistent in the way they’ve assessed things. We’ve had times where we’ve challenged that or not been happy with it, but overall I think it’s at least been on a par with the previous tribunal system and probably ahead of that.”
