NORTH Melbourne defender Scott Thompson has escaped penalty for his 'tummy tap' on Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett during Saturday night's clash at Metricon Stadium.

Thompson made contact to Ablett's stomach during the Suns' 15-point win and the incident was assessed by the Match Review Panel.

The panel found the contact was not seen by an umpire and didn't draw a free kick, and while one would have been expected to be paid, it was determined the force used did not constitute a reportable offence.

Adelaide's Jared Petrenko has also been cleared of any wrongdoing against Sydney Swans ruckman Shane Mumford from an incident that forced both players to be subbed out of Saturday's clash at AAMI Stadium.

Petrenko's momentum after dishing off a handball saw him crash into Mumford and break the big Swan's jaw. Petrenko hurt his troublesome shoulder and also left the field.

The incident wasn't looked at by the panel. Petrenko will be free to play against Richmond next Saturday if his shoulder allows it.

Carlton's Ed Curnow can accept a $1950 fine with an early plea for making reckless contact with an umpire on Friday night in the clash with Essendon at the MCG.

Curnow made contact with umpire Scott Jeffrey in the second quarter of the Blues' five-point loss, which is his first offence of that nature.

Contact between Geelong's James Podsiadly and Greater Western Sydney's Rhys Palmer was also assessed. The panel found the Cat did not deviate from his initial line and didn't make a bumping action.

No further action will be taken.
