FREMANTLE will be without veteran Stephen Hill for its clash against Port Adelaide on Sunday after he suffered a corked calf at training.

Running defender Nathan Wilson, who was a late withdrawal himself in round two, will replace Hill in the Dockers team that faces the Power at Metricon Stadium on Sunday night.

In more positive news for Fremantle, forward Jesse Hogan has been declared fit to make his long-awaited AFL return despite a gym incident on Friday hat required him to get stitches in his lip.

The 25-year-old was training with his Dockers teammates when he was accidentally hit in the face by a barbell.

"Jesse was lifting weights when a barbell was dislodged and dropped on his face," Bell said.

"He required stitches to some facial cuts."

Hogan impressed last week in a reserves scratch match that served as his competitive return, after he went on indefinite leave in January to focus on his mental health.

He was recovering at the time from foot surgery that restricted him to only 12 games and 13 goals in his first season as a Docker, after aggravating an old navicular injury.

Hogan resumed training in April and joined his Fremantle teammates on the trip to Queensland before declaring to rookie coach Justin Longmuir that he was ready to play again.

He's had a tumultuous time since requesting a trade home to Western Australia.

Hogan was ruled out of round one last year, for what Bell described as "poor decisions to do with alcohol consumption" that were related to an anxiety disorder.

He was also hospitalised in November after being involved in a car accident, where he clipped a parked vehicle.

Hogan won the NAB AFL Rising Star award in 2015 – relegating Carlton superstar and fellow West Australian Patrick Cripps to runner-up – and has kicked more than 40 goals in a season three times.

After some tense negotiations, the Dockers agreed to send picks six and 23 to the Demons in 2018 for Hogan and selection 65.

Hogan's kicked 165 goals from 83 games in total.
