By the close of business, Sam Docherty, Jared Polec and Elliot Yeo had all reached their preferred clubs in trades that were signed off within the space of 90 minutes.
The departures answered some remaining questions as the Gillette AFL Trade Period comes to a close.
There are, however, several deals to be settled in the final hours when clubs convene at Etihad Stadium on Friday.
What will the Brisbane Lions end up with at 2pm Friday?
A strong position in the second round of the draft, but far from fair compensation for the players they have lost. The Lions secured pick No.33 for Sam Docherty, selection No.28 for Elliot Yeo and picks No.22, No.34 and No.48 for Jared Polec. Young ruckman Billy Longer could also reach St Kilda on Friday for pick No.25. The only player likely to join the club is Collingwood's Jackson Paine, who could be traded in exchange for Pat Karnezis. That should see the Lions finish the exchange period with five selections between No.22 and No.34 and a young forward who was selected with pick No.50 two years ago. It was always going to be a salvage mission for the Lions, and list manager Rob Kerr has battled hard to receive compensation. - Nathan Schmook
Are any late surprises likely?
A club to watch might be Hawthorn, which in recent years has moved stealthily on the final day of trading to secure players such as Kyle Cheney and Matt Spangher. The Hawks have five picks as it stands and have said they might enter the draft with just three, so if they don't have two rookie list upgrades already planned, they may have another surprise acquisition in store for Friday at Etihad Stadium. - Ashley Browne
How many players will the Sydney Swans lose in this trade period?
The Swans' salary cap constraints after Lance Franklin's signing has led to the departure of Shane Mumford and Jed Lamb down the M4 to the Homebush home base of the Giants, and Jesse White to Collingwood. Andrejs Everitt is also weighing up his future and now has interest from Carlton to consider along with the Giants and West Coast. Given that Lamb's departure was unforeseen, the Swans say they still have room in the cap to accommodate Everitt. Tony Armstrong might also be on the move, with Collingwood flagging some interest, although he would move as a delisted free agent. - AB
Is Patrick Karnezis more likely to be a Kangaroo or Magpie player in 2014?
Collingwood remains keen on getting the young Lion and is trying to find ways to make the trade happen. The latest name to enter the equation is Magpie forward Jackson Paine. The talented 20-year-old would get more opportunities at the Lions but his involvement is nowhere near a done deal. North Melbourne is sitting in the wings with a higher draft pick than Collingwood but Karnezis appears keen to get to the Magpies. - Peter Ryan
Where is Andrejs Everitt likely to be playing in 2014?
Anything is possible now with Everitt considering his options. He has attracted interest from Greater Western Sydney and Carlton, and has kept open the option of remaining at the Sydney Swans. The Blues and the Giants are very keen but Everitt seemed to gain momentum late in the season with the Swans so he has a difficult call to make. My money is on him joining the Giants but it is merely an educated guess. If Everitt did decide to leave the Sydney Swans it's unlikely any trade would happen before Friday's 2pm deadline. - PR
Will Josh Bruce make it to St Kilda or stay at Greater Western Sydney?
There is little chance he will remain at the Giants, with his manager Ben Williams indicating to AFL.com.au he is prepared to go to the pre-season draft to reach St Kilda. The Saints have put pick No.41 on the table for Bruce and are holding firm. Given that the Sydney Swans' Jesse White reached Collingwood with pick No.44 and Shane Mumford reached the Giants with pick No.35, Bruce does appear to sit somewhere in the middle of those two talents. However the Giants have proved to be good negotiators and still want Bruce so there remains a bit to play out. - PR
Will Scott Gumbleton get to Fremantle?
Gumbleton's manager Paul Connors has been supremely confident throughout that his client will get to the Dockers. Freo has offered its pick No.55 for the key forward, but the Dons believe he is worth that bit more. If neither side blinks before the 2pm trade deadline on Friday, then Gumbleton and Fremantle will simply wait until the pre-season draft in late November. - AB
What likelihood is there that Shaun McKernan will end up back in Victoria?
Very little. McKernan has one year to run on his contract with the Crows, which has made his move to a Victorian club difficult. The most likely scenario for the 23-year-old is serving out his contract before moving more freely at the end of 2014. Perhaps because he is contracted, there has been little interest from rival clubs, despite a number of ruckmen moving clubs and leaving holes. McKernan has played 32 games since being recruited with pick No.28 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft. - NS
