The match day report against the Western Bulldogs Ben Hudson for engaging in rough conduct against Richmond’s Angus Graham was assessed. The panel said Graham was contesting a mark while Hudson had jumped in the air in a bid to spoil the ball. After he has left the ground, Hudson realises he will not be able to spoil and withdraws his arm, to his side. It was the view of the panel that Hudson left the ground before the mark was contested and that his arm was initially out to spoil. The umpire in control of play at the time paid a 50-metre penalty against the Western Bulldogs’ player for late contact and it was the panel’s view that his actions were not reportable. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Geelong Cats’ David Wojcinski and Collingwood’s Alan Didak from the first quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Didak is contesting a loose ball as Wojcinski is coming towards the ball. Wojcinski has his eyes on the ball at all times and attempts to kick the ball forward. The Geelong player misses the ball and makes contact with Didak’s leg, conceding a free kick. It was the view of the panel that Wojcinski was attempting to contest the ball and no further action was taken.
Contact between Collingwood’s Travis Cloke and the Geelong Cats’ Cameron Ling from the third quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Cloke had disposed of the ball after he was tackled by Ling. As Cloke was falling to the ground, he held on to Ling, after the tackle. Ling landed awkwardly but it was the view of the panel that Cloke’s actions were not reportable. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Geelong Cats’ James Kelly and Collingwood’s Andrew Krakouer from the fourth quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. Krakouer had moved on to a loose ball and handballed the ball, when he is bumped by player Kelly. Contact is made both to the body and high, and Krakouer is paid a free kick. The Collingwood player was not treated for any injury and it was the view of the panel that the high contact was below the forced required to constitute a free kick. No further action was taken.
Contact between North Melbourne’s Daniel Pratt and Melbourne’s Michael Newton from the first quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. Newton has marked the ball when he is met by Daniel Pratt. After the pair make contact, Pratt strikes Newton with an open hand. The panel received a medical report on player Newton which stated he had not been treated for any injury. The panel also spoke to the controlling umpire, who paid a 50-metre penalty at the time for high contact, but did not believe a report was warranted. It was the view of the panel, in all circumstances, that the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Brisbane Lions’ Ashley McGrath and Essendon’s Mark McVeigh from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. McGrath and McVeigh were running towards a loose ball when the ball hit McVeigh’s leg and richocheted into McGrath’s left leg. McGrath tried to kick the ball with his right leg and missed, making contact with McVeigh. It was the view of the panel that McGrath was attempting to contest the ball and his actions were not reportable. No further action was taken.
Contact between St Kilda’s Steven Baker and Hawthorn’s Michael Osborne from the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. As there was no clear vision of the incident available, the panel spoke to the emergency umpire who clearly viewed the contact. It was his view that a free kick was warranted, which was paid, but that the force used was below that required to constitute a reportable offence. No further action was taken.
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Will Minson and Richmond’s Nathan Foley from the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Contact was made to Foley’s shoulder, which then slid up high. It was the view of the panel that Minson’s actions were not a striking motion and no further action was taken.
