Staff from the St Kilda Football Club were today humbled to attend a Mini-Fields of Women event held at Cruden Farm, Langwarrin, where women and families affected by cancer came together to show their support for one another.

The morning included singing, raffles, morning tea and lunch, and the significant ‘planting’ of the Pink Lady Silhouettes.

Around 300 women from across Melbourne were in attendance and each wrote a tribute to someone who has been affected by cancer on their pink lady before planting them in the Farm’s stunning garden.

St Kilda staff member Kerry Hann, a survivor of breast cancer herself, organised for a signed 2011 St Kilda Football Gearnsey to be auctioned off during the event.

Kerry was happy to have the support of her club colleagues during the event, which dragged up some painful memories, but was glad she was able to help Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA) and the Mornington Peninsula Wig Library through the donation of this auction item.

In 2008 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer, so I know firsthand the fantastic work both the Wig Library and Breast Cancer Network Australia do in supporting women affected by cancer.

“This is why we have made a commitment to support the Wig Library with a donation of signed merchandise each year to help raise much needed funds.”

The winning bid of the signed St Kilda Football Club Guernsey was $660; which will be split evenly between the Wig Library and BCNA.

The successful bidder, Audrey Hyde from Drouin, said she knew she was going to bid for it from the minute she saw it because her husband would love it.

Kerry was invited along to the day by the Mornington Peninsula Wig Library; a free service offered to women who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy treatment.

The Library is located in Frankston and volunteers can help cancer patients choose from a library full of more than 600 wigs.

The St Kilda Football Club recently invited volunteers from the Mornington Peninsula Wig Library to a fundraiser at the Linen House Centre, Seaford for the ‘Biggest Morning Tea’ where staff and players from the Club donated $2075 to the Cancer Council and $500 to the Wig Library.  Staff
