WEST Coast premiership coach John Worsfold says he is comfortable with the contract offer put to him by the club on Thursday and will now set about negotiating the details of his next term in charge.

In an exclusive interview with afl.com.au, Worsfold wouldn't reveal the length of the offer because he still needed to work through the intricacies with Eagles management.

However, he added he was content with any length given there was a clear understanding of what the club was aiming to achieve in that period.

"It's all extremely fair, as you'd expect. The club's always been great to deal with," Worsfold said.

"I'm very comfortable [with the offer]. If it was one year or five years, I'd be comfortable providing I felt as though the understanding of what we're aiming to achieve in the period of the contract is clear on both parties.

"I'm rapt to get the opportunity to build this group."

Dean Laidley's resignation of the senior position at North Melbourne this week has somewhat shaken the coaching landscape but Worsfold said there was no rush to rubber-stamp his new deal.

"It's just a matter of me getting clear and getting back to the club now and then talking through it with them," he said.

"That often takes a few days – there'll be a weekend in between. There is urgency, but there's no rush to force the issue."

Last season was the Eagles' worst on record with a number of heavy losses scarring the unsuccessful campaign.

They finished 15th, ahead of Melbourne, with four wins from 22 games.

Worsfold said eliminating the heavy losses of 2008 was high on the board's agenda this season and his side had succeeded in that.

West Coast has won three of its 12 games this season, but two of those have been resounding victories over the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide.

The Eagles pushed undefeated Geelong for most of last week's clash, only to lose by 22 points.

"Other than the St Kilda game, we haven't really been blown away," Worsfold said. "We fought on strongly even in games where we've been really disappointing."

Worsfold has guided West Coast to six finals series in his seven completed seasons in charge, including the 2005 grand final and 2006 premiership, and has a win-loss record of 97-79.
