Over 250 young Swans fans and footballers in the making, many wearing those now-famous green boots, descended on Port Melbourne to meet the Swans and learn tips and tricks from their favourite players.
Players including Nick Malceski, Adam Goodes, Jarrad McVeigh, Rhyce Shaw and Lewis Jetta gave instructions on kicking and handballing to kids aged as young as three; signed autographs and posed for hundreds of photos, the morning after the team’s 40-point win over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium.
William, a young Jetta fan, was one of several kids spotted wearing green boots while waiting patiently in queue for Lewis Jetta’s autograph. William’s mum Jenny Stamper said William was thrilled to meet his favourite Swan, and after seeing him in action, insisted on his very own pair of green boots.
And William is not the only one. Lynette Jetta, Lewis’ aunty, said the green boots had sold out several times at the local sports store in Bunbury, Western Australia, Jetta’s hometown.
“He’s a good boy, and everyone is really happy for him. Everyone wants him to do well, and they’ve all been buying the boots, just like he wears! Now we’re just waiting for that goal!” she said.
