Sydney Swans co-captain Adam Goodes has been handed a reprimand by the AFL Match Review Panel and is free to take his place in the Swans line-up against North Melbourne on Saturday at Etihad Stadium.

Goodes was charged with a level one tripping offence involving Brent Guerra of Hawthorn in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match at the SCG.

The Match Review Panel found that based on the video evidence available and a medical report from Hawthorn, the incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand.

Goodes has an existing record of one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to 88 demerit points. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 66 points towards his future record.

As the base demerit points for the charge is under 100, Goodes remains eligible for the Brownlow medal.

The Club has until 11am tomorrow to accept or contest the Match Review Panel’s findings.
