AFL players have responded positively to the news that their pay deal for the next five years has been signed off.
After 18 months of negotiations, the AFL and the AFL Players Association announced a new $1.144 billion collective bargaining agreement on Thursday.
The agreement covers seasons 2012 to 2016, with a review after the first three years.
Collingwood star Dale Thomas, fronting the media after having his head shaved for charity, was the first to offer comment.
"The process has been a long one but we've had full trust in the AFLPA the whole way through and they've had the power of all the players behind them," he said.
"I think we've finally come to a negotiation of a fair deal and in these processes, that's what you want."
A number of players used Twitter to thank their union for a job well done.
"Terrific outcome for all concerned," wrote Hawthorn midfielder Brad Sewell, an AFLPA board member.
"Special thanks to (association CEO) Matt Finnis, (operations manager) Ian Prendergast and the AFL Players [Association] team for their tireless efforts."
Sydney Swan Jude Bolton, Carlton's Brock McLean and Brisbane Lion Brent Staker also praised the deal.
"Great result for AFL Players through the new CBA - ensures the players have a fair and reasonable stake in the game," Bolton tweeted.
"Great work by the AFL Players to get the new CBA done," said McLean.
"A lot of hard work has gone into this to make sure that all parties get their fair share!"
And Staker posted: "Terrific to see a new deal between AFL players and the AFL. Proud to be a delegate and play my part over the last two years."
