Team of the Decade

Motlop arrived at Port Adelaide via trade at the end of 2005 after five indifferent years with North Melbourne. No-one doubted the Northern Territorian’s talent, but he had so far been unable to produce consistently. After another frustrating year in 2006, Motlop exploded in the second half of 2007 booting 35 goals in 13 games, including a best on ground six-goal haul against the Lions in Round 13. The miraculous forward carried this form into the 2008 season where he was ultra-consistent in a disappointing year for the club, finishing the season with 57 goals to lead the Power’s goalkicking. Along the way, the human highlight reel has produced a number of Goal of the Year nominations (including a 50 metre banana from the boundary at the Gabba and a freakish dribbled goal from the boundary against Fremantle at Subiaco) and several Mark of the Year nominations (screamers against amongst others Hawthorn at the MCG and West Coast at Subiaco).
