NORTH Melbourne midfielder Levi Greenwood says his match-winning goal against Brisbane on Saturday night was the best kick of his life.

With his side goalless for the second half in the face of a resurgent Brisbane Lions outfit, Greenwood found himself faced with a prospect imagined by so many budding footballers.

Just over one minute out from the final siren, Greenwood’s remarkable set shot from 35m out on the tightest of angles put his side up by a solitary point - a lead they managed to hang on to in the dying seconds.

“That’s the best kick I’ve ever done, definitely, especially in terms of where the game was at” Greenwood said.

“It didn’t look too good off the boot but it felt good and as soon as I kicked it I thought, ‘oh, it’s going straight so as long as I’ve kicked it straight then it should go through’.

“It’s a dream come true, but when you get the ball you’re just thinking, ‘I don’t want to stuff this up or else I’ll become the most hated bloke in the team’ - luckily it came off.”

It capped a stunning form reversal from the Kangaroos who looked to have little answer for the Lions’ superior run and carry in the second half.

With the Lions playing on at every opportunity, North Melbourne’s short break from last week as well as a flight back from Subiaco Oval appeared to have taken a toll on a tiring Roos outfit.

“We had them covered in the first half but we just let them get back into it in the third quarter but to the credit of the boys we held strong ,” Greenwood said.

“We came in really focused on our competiveness and our fight so we came out hard in the first half but then went away a bit from that because when Brisbane get their run on they’re hard to stop.”

It marks the second time this season North Melbourne have endured a tense final term after Adelaide similarly kicked seven unanswered goals before falling nine points short.

“Putting sides away is something we’re trying to focus on,” Greenwood said.

“All good teams can come back and hit you hard if you let them go and you can’t be happy with a 50-point lead.

“Thankfully we’ve managed to hold on against those sides this season.”
