VICTORIAN assistant coach Kevin Sheedy says Jonathan Brown and Gary Ablett are likely to represent the Vics in this week’s Hall of Fame tribute match.

Sheedy said Brown would know best if he is fit for the match, as he battles a quad injury.

“Jonathan Brown is captain of Victoria. He’ll know whether he’s fit or not. If he’s not fit he shouldn’t play,” Sheedy said.

“That’s what being a leader is, making the right decision. I’d say he is a 75-80 per cent chance of playing.”

Sheedy says Ablett is a near certainty to pull on the Big V that his father Gary Snr wore with pride on 11 occasions.

“He’ll play, don’t worry about it. Just look for him running out there and he’ll be saying ‘I’m going to catch you dad.’”

Sheedy said every player under consideration was keen to represent their state.

“They are the best available players playing against each other for the possibility of All-Australian selection,” he said.

“I got a text from Luke Hodge saying how disappointed he was to miss out. He said hopefully my time will come again.”

Sheedy said it was not just the players that were looking forward to the game, and that he expected a big crowd to turn out.

“I see this as a reward match for Melbourne fans that have waited 10 years to see Victoria’s youth represented as men,” he said.

“I would be disappointed if they didn’t come and support their own locals.”

Sheedy was jovial for much of Monday’s press conference but had his serious face on when asked how his team would approach the exhibition match.

“We’ve got some hard tough midfielders. It will be harder to get into the Dream Team than the Victorian team so I would have thought that we’re slightly up against it in some ways but we are not going to give them a run free zone,” he said.

“It’s going to be one-on-one footy where it has to be.”
