Here are Josh's answers to this week's top questions:
Hi JK,
My whole family is so stoked footy is back!! We were at the game on Sunday and screamed like crazy in the last quarter. How would you rate your game and what have you been working on this week before the Port match? LOVE YOUSE!!!!!!
It was great to win and I'm glad you were all screaming so hard! With my game I missed a few little opportunities which could have got me some more shots on goal which would have been nice. Since it was a Sunday game, we have just been doing a lot of recovery sessions because it’s a six-day break. We will have a couple of light sessions before we fly out but I'll just be working on my contested work!
Hey Josh,
I play for South Fremantle Women’s Football Club and I am also the youngest and smallest in the team. I play in the forward pocket and even though I have good games most of the time I would like to be able to kick further and to be able to kick on the run better. Does this come with practice and building up your leg muscles?? My dream is to play AFL on the MCG one day and to be able to play like you and Mark LeCras. Good Luck this season!!!
Cheers, Louise
G'day Louise,
South Fremantle? You know just down the road is a way better club in East Fremantle!!! Haha just kidding. it's great to see you have a goal to get on the MCG one day! Make sure you stick to it and I'm sure you will be out there. Kicking further is mostly the strength you have in your legs but also comes down to technique. Big Lynchy can kick a ball 80 metres because he has massive legs, but also good technique, so firstly you need to be able to control the ball when you are at some speed, because to get momentum through the ball will help with distance as well. This is where you can practice kicking on the run as well. Your ball drop is so important when kicking and once you start to jog, run or become under pressure that's when the ball drop and technique can fail. You need to practice kicking on the run to see what best works for you, also practice kicking goals on the run to give you a bigger target!
Oh my god, can’t get over what happened to Lecca on the weekend. How is he feeling and who do you think is capable of stepping into his shoes? Thanks, Will
Hey mate,
It was shattering to see him go down, but hopefully we will see him out there ASAP! We have Andrew Strijk who can come in and sneak a few goals here and there. Having him and Hams and Nicoski, as well as your midfielders crumbing packs will be a dangerous combo for opposition. And Jack Darling up there will be a great marking target for us as a third tall. We will miss Lecca but hopefully we can all contribute and spread the load.
Dear Josh,
My name is Sarah and I am a big Eagles fan. My question is who is your best friend at the club and do the boys ever have fights? Good luck this year.
Love from Sarah
Hello Sarah,
I get on with all the boys but am pretty close with Sammy Butler. We used to live basically next door and our girlfriends hated it because we were always hanging out together haha. Boys really only fight if it's on the training track, sometimes training gets intense and the boys go flat out. Then there are the odd broken noses but we are all good mates. Except Hamsy, no one likes him.
Hi Josh,
I was very impressed by the debutants on the weekend. What other talent is yet to be unearthed in the squad?
Cheers, Kenneth
Yeah mate there's a few to look out for. Gerrick Weedon is one to watch. We saw a bit in the NAB Cup and he is improving every week. His tackling and pressure are amazing. He is a massive strong bloke who hits the ball hard and hopefully he will get his chance soon. Ryan Neates will give us some leg speed when he's back up and running and young Blayne Wilson has the ability to read the game really well for a first year player. It's exciting we are starting to build some depth! Cheers Kenneth.
