Australia’s favourite personalities will be showing off their football skills for charity in the ‘Redkite and OCF Celebrity AFL Game’ this Saturday at the SCG, ahead of the big match between the Sydney Swans and Fremantle.
The celebrity match will begin at 1.40pm, before the Swans take on the Dockers at 2.10pm.
Celebrities including Merrick Watts and Scott Dooley (Nova 96.9), Gus Worland (Triple M), Adam Spencer (ABC 702), Tom Williams (Great Outdoors), Dr Chris Brown (Bondi Vet), Les Hill and Gyton Grantley (Underbelly), Anthony Bell (Loyal Foundation), Angus McLaren (Packed to the Rafters), Terry McFlynn (Sydney FC), Chas Licciardello and Charles Firth (Chasers), Layne Beachley (champion surfer), Andrew Reid (Bondi Rescue), and Humphrey B Bear, will be testing out their AFL skills to improve the lives of children with cancer.
The match will raise awareness for Redkite, which supports children, young people and their families through cancer, and the Oncology Children’s Foundation (OCF), which funds cutting-edge research into childhood cancers.
Adam Spencer and Merrick Watts captained teams at last year’s match, with Merrick’s team coming out on top.
Merrick was thrilled that he managed to score a goal and his team won on the day. “It is a great honour to win the celebrity game, but the true winner is Redkite and OCF who have managed to get some of the slowest movers in the country to give their best for a great cause,” Merrick said.
Adam Spencer said he was excited to get back on the field. “The Celebrity Game is a great day to run around and to let people know about the fantastic work that Redkite and OCF do,’’ Adam said.
“A year is a long time in celebrity AFL and the only thing I will enjoy more than kicking goals against Merrick this year is kicking goals for Redkite and OCF … so bring it on!”
The Sydney Swans are long term supporters of Redkite and OCF.
Over 200 family members who are supported by Redkite will be attending a special lunch prior to the Celebrity AFL Game. It will be a memorable day out for them as they meet their favourite celebrities before watching the Sydney Swans vs. Fremantle Dockers match.
A guard of honour will be formed by about 40 children to cheer on the Sydney Swans.
Redkite and OCF are working together to improve the lives of children with cancer. Redkite provides real and practical support to children, young people and their families throughout the cancer journey. OCF works with Australia’s premier researchers and oncologists and is dedicated to finding cures so that children with cancer can live their dreams.
