Watch this week's moments

1. Carlton 18.12 (120) d Brisbane 9.11 (65) at Etihad Stadium

The moment: Mitch Clark may have hoped he was part of the crowd during Thursday night’s massacre but the young ruckman took it too far when he led to an errant James Polkinghorne kick, overcommitted and toppled over the fence. He was probably having second thoughts about whether to re-enter the field for what would be a 55-point drubbing.

2. Hawthorn 12.7 (79) d Western Bulldogs 11.10 (76) at the MCG

The moment: With the all grace and speed of a World Cup striker, Cyrol Rioli was at his mercurial best. The tap down from Carl Peterson found Rioli on the burst and Ryan Hargrave taking a nap. Leaving the Dog’s defender in his wake, Rioli hit the afterburners and kicked the Hawks’ sixth.

3. Fremantle 17.13 (115) d Port Adelaide 8.10 (58) at Subiaco Oval

The moment: It was the moment the feel-good story of the season came to an abrupt and sickening end. Running backwards with the flight of the ball, Michael Barlow’s left leg buckled as he crashed into oncoming teammate Rhys Palmer. Fremantle was up by 10 goals and would go on to win easily but no-one was in the mood for celebrating.

4. Collingwood 20.15 (135) d West Coast 7.10 (52) at Etihad Stadium

The moment: The third quarter belonged to one man. It was the Alan Didak show, as he turned the game on its head in the blink of an eye. After his Daicos-style goal from the boundary and his brilliant soccer off the ground, Didak capped a remarkable three minutes of football with a memorable bomb from 45 metres out that squeezed through the big sticks.

5. Adelaide 19.10 (124) d Essendon 5.10 (40) at AAMI Stadium

The moment: FIFA has come under attack for not employing a video referee at the World Cup and debate about the use of technology in the AFL is also likely to hot up, following an incident involving Bomber Jason Winderlich. Winderlich’s shot on goal in the last quarter was deemed to have grazed the post, but replays showed it was clearly a goal.

6. Geelong 14.14 (98) d North Melbourne 9.9 (63) at Skilled Stadium

The moment: Trent West, playing his third game of the year, decided James Podsiadly had hogged the spotlight for too long when he put in his bid for mark of the year in the third term. As the ball flew in, West planted his knees on the shoulders of Hamish McIntosh and plucked the ball, before turning and booting his one and only goal.

7. Richmond 14.5 (89) d Sydney Swans 12.13 (85) at the MCG

The moment: Brett Deledio looked gone for the day when he badly hyper-extended his right elbow in a tackle in the second quarter. He got the ball right back as he tried to limp off the ground and recorded a stat when he booted it away after gathering with his left arm.

8. St Kilda 15.10 (100) d Melbourne 9.11 (65) at Etihad Stadium

The moment: The typically clinical Saints were suffering occasional bouts of the yips, but at least Rhys Stanley's fumble in the second half provided some comedy fodder. He was five metres in the clear with a bouncing ball within his grasp, running into a certain goal when he fumbled, missed with a kick and finally palmed the ball through for a point.
