Heading into the Christmas break, Adelaide’s newest rookies have spent the past few weeks settling in to their new surrounds.

Tim Milera, Jake von Bertouch and Lachlan Roach have been on a modified training program while they find their feet during the early stages.

afc.com.au caught up with Eagles recruit and Yorke Peninsula local Jake von Bertouch before he headed off home to chat about his first few days at the club…

Did you know what to expect around the time of the draft?
“I went into it not knowing what to expect. You could go anywhere or you could go nowhere. I just waited to see what happened, and when I saw my name come up next to the Crows that was a good feeling.”

What have you been up to these first few weeks?
“Mainly we have just been getting around and meeting the players and learning what happens during the week. We’ve had a little bit of a taste of training, going out and doing a few sessions but not doing too much so we don’t overload ourselves too early.”

How much training have you taken part in?
“We’ve done a little bit of weights, and we join in on some training then pull out of various drills. Mainly the game like footy drills we watch so we can see how the game plan unfolds, and we can learn how to fit in with the structures.”

“We’ll do a lot more after Christmas after having these few weeks to find our feet and learn where to fit in.”

How has it been finding your feet?
“It’s been really good. All the boys introduce themselves and make you feel welcome so you just feel a part of it and you get to know everyone pretty quickly.

"I knew a few of the boys from the Eagles and the other boys that got drafted I knew from the State games.”

Aims for 2011?
“I want to train well after the break and during the season I want to push for league selection with the Eagles and see what happens from there. I just want to keep improving.”

Plans over the Christmas break?
“I’ll be heading home to Kadina on the Yorke Peninsula to see the family. I’ll try and keep up some fitness and try to relax as well.”
