THE AFL wishes to advise the match review panel has reviewed the opening seven matches played from the weekend, with tonight's St Kilda v Carlton match to be reviewed tomorrow.

The following charges were laid:

Chance Bateman, Hawthorn, has been charged with a level three engaging in rough conduct offence against Brad Sheppard, West Coast, during the second quarter of the round seven match between Hawthorn and West Coast, played at Subiaco on Saturday May 8, 2010.

In summary, his previous poor record means that his three-game sanction must remain at three games, even with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has one match suspended within the last three years, increasing the penalty by 10 per cent to a 357.50 points. He also has 68.75 points carried over from within the last 12 months, increasing the penalty to 426.25 points and a four-match sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 319.69 points and a three-match sanction.

Matthew Leuenberger, Brisbane Lions, has been charged with a first offence for making negligent contact with umpire Jacob Mollison during the third quarter of the round seven match between the Brisbane Lions and Fremantle, played at the Gabba on Saturday May 8, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a $900 sanction.

A first offence for making negligent contact with an umpire is a $1200 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $900 sanction.

Shane Mumford, Sydney Swans, has been charged with a level three engaging in rough conduct offence against Gary Ablett, Geelong Cats, during the fourth quarter of the round seven match between the Sydney Swans and the Geelong Cats, played at Skilled Stadium on Sunday May 9, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a two-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as reckless conduct (two points), medium impact (two points) and high contact (two points). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 325 demerit points and a three-match sanction. He has no existing good or bad record. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 243.75 points and a two-match sanction.

Dean Polo, Richmond, has been charged with a level three striking offence against Richard Douglas, Adelaide Crows, during the fourth quarter of the round seven match between Richmond and the Adelaide Crows, played at AAMI Stadium on Sunday May 9, 2010.

In summary, his five-year good record means that he can accept a one-match sanction with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), medium impact (two points) and body contact (one point). This is a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two-match sanction. He has an existing five-year good record which reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one-game sanction. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to 126.56 points and a one-game sanction.

Other incidents assessed
The match day report laid against the Geelong Cats’ James Kelly for engaging in rough conduct against the Sydney Swans’ Kieren Jack from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. The panel said Kelly came in to contest the ball in a pack situation. Jack had been paid a free kick just as Kelly arrived at the contest. It was the panel’s view that Kelly was still contesting the ball and was not aware that play had been called to a halt. His actions were not deemed unreasonable in the circumstances and no further action was taken.
 
Contact between North Melbourne’s Daniel Wells and Collingwood’s Luke Ball from the second quarter of Saturday’s match was assessed. The panel said the majority of contact was made to the shoulder and there was no forceful contact to the head/neck region. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between the Western Bulldogs’ Jarrod Harbrow and Melbourne’s Jamie Bennell from the first quarter of Friday’s match was assessed. The panel said contact was made with an open hand as Harbrow went to smother a handball. No further action was taken.
 
Contact between Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt and the Adelaide Crows’ Bernie Vince from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.
 
Contact between Richmond’s Trent Cotchin and the Adelaide Crows’ Bernie Vince from the second quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. Contact was below that required to constitute a reportable offence.
 
Contact between the Adelaide Crows’ Scott Thompson and Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt from the fourth quarter of Sunday’s match was assessed. On the vision that was available to assess the incident, the panel said that Thompson had begun a tackling motion but did not continue with his tackle once Riewoldt disposed of the ball. No further action was taken.
