CARLTON ruckman Matthew Kreuzer will miss the rest of the season after scans on Sunday confirmed he had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Kreuzer went down with the knee injury in the first quarter of Saturday night's match against Fremantle at Etihad Stadium.

The club has not yet decided on whether Kreuzer will undergo a traditional knee reconstruction or whether he will undergo LARS surgery, but either option means he will not play again this year.

"We will look at all options available and make a decision in conjunction with Matthew and the medical team on the best treatment for Matthew's long term recovery," said Carlton's football operations manager Steven Icke.

Carlton will make a decision during the week on which option to take with Kreuzer's knee surgery.
