I was just wondering how to kick a football further? I understand timing has a lot to do with it but what training can be used to help do this. Also what technical changes to the actual punt need to be made to make it go 5 or 10 m further?
Hopefully you can help - Regards, Anthony Estwick.
Hi Anthony,
I would agree with you that timing does has a lot to do with it. A player’s kicking technique also plays a major role. e.g. Do you have a fluent kicking style, do you drop the ball onto your foot well, and what are you doing with your non-dropping hand? Just make sure you practice and listen to those coaches around you.
Hi Aaron
You are my favourite Demon player, so exciting to watch with your speed and the way you relentlessly chase down and tackle players, sometimes three or more in a row.
I heard that your younger brother may be considered for the Demons some time in the future. Can you tell me if this is true and if he is much like you as a player?
From George
Hi George,
He just did a pre-season with the Demons. I’m pretty sure he did pretty well too, not only to be considered for the mighty Demons but also for other clubs in the future. In saying all of that, it would be great if he could play alongside me in the red and blue.
Hi Aaron, do you see yourself playing on the ball more this year if so what position?
From Dean
Hi Dean,
I’m unsure at this stage of the season with there being so many midfielders. I would like to push up onto a wing if the opportunity comes up but I’ll just stay forward for the time being.
Hi Aaron
Are you more excited when Whelan and Motlop are picked to play with on match days and do you look out for each other?
From Rosie
Hi Rosie,
It’s a great feeling to play with Wheels and Motty. When we do play, we just go out and play to the team’s structure, but people tend to think that we look out for each other.
Before playing for Melbourne who did you barrack for as a kid?
From Glenda
Hi Glenda,
When I was really young I followed the Bombers because of Michael Long and my first cousin Gavin Wangaween, but then I followed Port Power when Gavin Wangaween played there.
My first cousin on my mum’s side played as well, Fabian Francis.
But I’m a red and blue supporter now.
G'day Aaron, the Dees now have a solid senior list of players who are through the 100 game mark and the ongoing maturity of our young midfield group, do the players believe we are finally a genuine premiership contender?
From Paul
Hi Paul
From a personal point of view I believe we have a great side and not only I think that, but all the boys think that as well.
Hi Aaron,
With the potential retirement of Neitz in the next couple of years, is there a stand-out replacement amongst the young group at the club to take over the full forward position?
From Brian
Hi Brian,
The closest would probably be Robbo.
Hi Aaron,
How have you handled the pressure to the big time and fans? What do you do before a game to settle yourself down? How much fitness do you require to run in the midfield full time? Gee mate, you’re so fast and skilled don't pass it off, have a shot at goal, Go Dees! Ray
From Ray
Hi Ray
The pressure hasn’t been too bad, I think if you think about it too much that’s when it worries you, so I don’t think too much about it. I listen to music to settle the nerves down and keep up the fitness to maintain a full time midfield role, I would say the pressure is pretty high.
