Richmond’s travelling party will return to Melbourne this morning after Melbourne Airport’s disruptions kept players and staff in Sydney last night.

The group will board a bus from Sydney, returning home later this evening.

“With the uncertainty about when planes would be operating at Melbourne Airport, we decided the best course of action would be to use a different form of transport,” Richmond Football Manager Ross Monaghan said.

“Due to the limited information we had after the match, we did not want to take the risk that we would need an extended stay in Sydney, particularly with a six-day break before our next match.

“There was no real disruption to the players after the match.  We secured accommodation quickly and they were able to rest from yesterday’s match, ensuring the players returned to Melbourne today to begin preparations for next week’s match.”

“The staff at the Intercontinental Hotel did an excellent job, ensuring our needs were met at short notice.

Richmond faces an away trip for its next match in Brisbane on Saturday night.
