Akermanis confirmed on Thursday he had been in the change rooms with the Queensland State of Origin team following last week's match in Melbourne, before Maroon Ben Hannant was diagnosed with the infection.
The entire Maroons team was later put in quarantine.
Akermanis was on Melbourne radio on Thursday joking about potentially being responsible for infecting the Queensland side - and some of his own teammates - after showing signs of a cold.
"I don't think they got it from me … I was sick last week, but I didn't tell anyone," Akermanis said on Nova 100.
"Unfortunately … half my teammates are sick, so I apologise.
"The doctors don't seem to be concerned. They rang me and I said 'I'm fine … I was a little sick last week' and they said ‘don't worry about it’."
Coach Rodney Eade said Akermanis was fine to play and denied there was any concern about a potential outbreak at the Bulldogs.
"He didn't have swine flu," Eade said at TIO Stadium on Thursday evening.
"I didn't know he had anything, to be honest, but two or three players had a bit of a nasal block early in the week. They're all fine."
