Speaking ahead of the Lions' NAB Cup encounter with the Bulldogs on Friday night, Power vowed that every Brisbane side that set foot on the park this season would fight to the end to help dim the memory of some unacceptable losses in 2006.
"I think it's got a lot to do with the way that you lose games and I can say on record that we weren't happy with the way that we lost a lot of games last year," Power said from Telstra Dome on Thursday.
"Hopefully we can rectify that and we can learn from those experiences and be a better team this year.
"We've got a really young list at the moment and I think that youth means that there's a lot of enthusiasm around the place and that's definitely what we're trying to promote at the moment.
"I think for us it's all about having a crack and winning a lot of respect back and making sure that our members are going and watching a team that's prepared to fight."
Power will be doing his bit to lift the side as part of Leigh Matthews' experimental leadership group that also contains Jonathan Brown, Nigel Lappin, Chris Johnson, and Simon Black.
The coach is evaluating the merits of the approach over the pre-season and will decide whether to appoint a traditional captain just before the season proper, but Power said the current arrangement seemed to be working well."We get together the night before the game and decide what we're going to do," he said with a grin.
"It's pretty easy. The main thing about leading is that you lead as a player on the field and that's definitely what our leadership group's all about."If that's the path that Leigh chooses then it'll be great, it's definitely got its pluses in that everyone can take a different part in leading and be able to lead in their own way and take part of the responsibility."
Brisbane won through to the quarter-final after running down the Saints in constant torrential rain and energy-sapping heat in Cairns, but Power was confident that his side would be ready for the speedy Dogs.
"It was a shocking game last week and we're going to the other extreme this week by playing the Bulldogs at Telstra Dome where we're not going to get any rain at all. The Bulldogs are a quick side so we're going to have to match them in that area," he said.
"It happens to us every year when we go up (to Cairns). I remember one year we played up there and there was a cyclone coming through - that was against the Bulldogs. It happens every year so I think the AFL will probably have to do something about playing up there.
"It was a short week, but we've managed to get one really good session in and done most of our other training so we're pretty well prepared for this game."
