Collingwood can confirm that captain Nick Maxwell and rookie-list player Tom Hunter spent the night in a Perth hospital following the NAB Cup semi final on Saturday.

Maxwell has some internal bleeding from his kidneys and will remain in hospital for observation. His condition will be monitored in coming days but at this stage his recovery time and return to Melbourne are not confirmed.

Hunter suffered trauma to his neck region and will also remain in hospital in Perth under observation.

The club will provide supporters with updates in coming days when further information becomes available.

Maxwell suffered a heavy knock from Eagle Andrew Embley in the second quarter and was forced to leave the ground.

The skipper tweeted to supporters today that he is feeling fine but will need to spend a few days in hospital to assess the damage.

"Well I have internal bleeding from my injuries.Stuck in hospital for awhile but the boys will be ok-big game coming up-Dons looking sharp."

"No idea on weeks sorry- A week in hospital at this stage, but reassessing everyday-improving all the time- hopefully out a lot sooner!"
