GEELONG has assembled a dominant second half to produce a comfortable 42-point win over St Kilda at Telstra Dome on Saturday afternoon.

The Cats and Saints were locked in an engaging contest until half time, before Geelong kicked away to relegate the home side to its second consecutive loss - 21.10 (136) to 13.16 (94).

The victory saw the reigning premiers notch their eighth consecutive win and eight straight at the Docklands venue, as well as level the Saints' 2008 win-loss ledger at their home ground with a second straight Dome defeat.

The Cats ran away with the game in the third term with a seven-goal to three quarter, which left the Saints reeling as key forward Fraser Gehrig was well beaten by Matthew Scarlett.

The Cats had 11 individual goalkickers with Steve Johnson booting four, Cameron Mooney and Tom Hawkins three each and James Kelly, Mathew Stokes and David Wojcinski kicking two.

Scarlett was sensational for the Cats with 24 possessions, while Joel Corey picked up 29 opposite Lenny Hayes. Cameron Ling (28) got on top of Nick Dal Santo and kept the Saints' ball magnet to 18, Jimmy Bartel had 31 and Harry Taylor played another impressive game in defence - including time on Nick Riewoldt.

The match was always going to present an interesting sub-plot, with St Kilda ruckman Steven King facing his former club for the first time.

King lined up opposite Mark Blake – the man he inadvertently pushed aside for a grand final berth in 2007 – and the contest was hot from the word go.

A minor scuffle involving the pair at the start of the second term seemed to ignite the Cats, who stepped up a gear and booted the next three goals to reverse St Kilda's 13-point lead at that stage to a goal their way.

The Saints kicked the next via Justin Koschitzke to level the scores, before the Cats put the foot to the floor and assembled their second biggest win this season.

Geelong led by 16 points at half time and with the Saints seemingly three men down - Xavier Clarke, Robert Harvey and Fisher, it seemed a blow-out was inevitable.

The trio returned to the field but were below their best.

Geelong, despite still lagging in the clearances, made its forward entries count and smashed through seven goals in the match-winning term. A period where Hawkins, Stokes, Wojcinski, Joel Selwood and Ling combined to kick six straight all but snuffed out the hopes of the red, white and black, although it made for scintillating footy as far as Cats fans were concerned.

The Cats held a comfortable 40-point buffer at the final change. The Saints, persevering with their three depleted players and a struggling Matt Maguire, fought hard to prevent the margin from drifting out, but another team-orientated victory from the coastal side couldn't be stopped.

Geelong will now host Sydney at Skilled Stadium next Saturday afternoon, while the Saints have a shorter break before they meet Essendon at Telstra Dome on Friday night.
