FREMANTLE has suffered a disappointing 56 point loss at the hands of Port Adelaide in their NAB Challenge match on Saturday evening at Noarlunga, south of Adelaide.

Despite the temperature soaring to 38 degrees, both sides played close to full-strength sides but it was Port Adelaide looked sharper in the heat, running out 16.15 (111) to 8.7 (55) victors.

Byron Schammer and Heath Black stood out for the Dockers on a dismal day, with the Power trio of Steven Salopek, Danyle Pearce and Daniel Motlop doing most of the damage.

Fremantle coach Mark Harvey said the extreme heat affected his players.

“I thought we were off our feet at certain stages,” he said, adding that the result was not overly significant.

“I'll tell one thing about pre-season form, forget about the results because they can be mis-leading.

“And they give you a false sense for round one and round two.

“So I'm not getting anxious about anything at the moment.”

The game started at a cracking pace with Dockers captain Matthew Pavlich quickly booting the opening goal after a strong mark inside 50 metres.

Port responded with goals from Tredrea and Brett Ebert, before Chris Tarrant put the Dockers back on equal terms.

However, the Power soon began to assert themselves in the midfield and from then on it was tough for the Dockers to get back into the game.

Mark Johnson and Des Headland worked hard but it was Port Adelaide’s play-on style and quick movement which caused problems for the visitors.

The Dockers did manage to cut the margin in the second term with kick three consecutive majors through Tarrant, Dean Solomon and the exciting Brett Peake, but it was an all-too-rare streak of dominance.

At halftime the visitors trailed by only 16 points, but the long break appeared to halt the Dockers' run as a Tredrea-inspired Power kicked 6.4 to the Dockers two behinds during the third term to lead by 54 points at three quarter time, effectively ending the match as a contest.
