Melbourne forward Ricky Petterd will require surgery, and will miss approximately four months of football after injuring his right shoulder.

Ricky suffered a first-time dislocation of his right shoulder in a marking contest during the fourth quarter of Melbourne’s Round Six match against North Melbourne on Saturday.

As a result of the substantial damage to the cartilage rim, the appropriate management is to operate now and stabilise the shoulder.

General Manager of Football, Chris Connolly, said, “This is obviously disappointing for Ricky and the Club.  After our meeting with the surgeon this week, it was clear that having the operation now would allow Ricky to have a full recovery, and get him back to playing football with no long term issues.
