FOR THE second consecutive year, the LeasePlan Western Bulldogs advised attendees at the club’s Annual General Meeting that the Footscray Football Club Ltd, trading as the Western Bulldogs, recorded a profit of $641,242 for season 2008. (Season 2007: $534,214)
Held on Thursday, 18 December, at The Meeting Place at Moonee Valley Racecourse, chief executive Campbell Rose was pleased with the result stating 2008 was a consolidated year both on and off the field.
As the nominations did not exceed the vacancies, an election was not held. Current board of directors Simon Garlick, Henry Jolson, QC and Gaye Hamilton have been reappointed as directors for the next three years.
Life memberships were awarded to current players Robert Murphy and Daniel Giansiracusa, who have played over 150 games for the Club. Club Doctor Gary Zimmerman, trainers Anissa Groves and Kevin O’Neill, game day assistant Archie Salek and employee Peter Dern were also awarded life memberships.
Outgoing recruiting manager Scott Clayton was also a very worthy recipient of a life membership for his role in the ‘1999 super draft’, which recruited fellow award winners Murphy and Giansiracusa, along with current players Ryan Hargrave, Mitch Hahn and Lindsay Gilbee.
Longstanding member Irene Chatfield will continue to be a strong presence around the Western Bulldogs. Chatfield was awarded life membership for her enormous contribution to the club which continues to prevail today.
“Recognising the contribution of Irene and many who supported the club during that difficult era, now that our club is in a very different space, is just acknowledgement of the tireless efforts and energy that have been put into this club,” said president, David Smorgon OAM
Past player John Schultz was honoured to present the last two awards of the night to property stewards Allan Jackson and Bill Wood. Both gentlemen were extremely honoured to have received this award in recognition of their contribution to the club over their many years of service.
