DUAL premiership coach Denis Pagan has confirmed he wants to coach again, but denied he has already been approached by either of the Western Australian clubs.

An article in Tuesday's Age newspaper said Pagan was willing to shift to any state in Australia – including the West – if a coaching job was on offer.

As of Monday night both West Coast and Fremantle had positions open on their coaching panel, but the Eagles have since announced the appointment of former Port Adelaide assistant Phillip Walsh as their new strategy and innovations coach.

The Age reported the two clubs had refused to rule out an approach to Pagan, but the former North Melbourne and Carlton coach said it had not happened yet.

"I haven't been approached by anyone at West Coast or Fremantle," he told SEN.

"You're lucky I answered the phone because I haven't been sitting by it."

Pagan said Fremantle's current list had plenty of potential, and believed it could "quite easily improve rapidly".

"I think they're going through a process where they're going to take a couple of steps back," he said.

"They've got a very good base structure there, and if they keep [Robert] Warnock, then they've got [Matthew] Pavlich and [Aaron] Sandilands and Warnock, and those good young midfielders [such as] Rhys Palmer, who's a gem.

"Also [Chris] Mayne and [Garrick] Ibbotson, and [Luke] McPharlin at the other end of the ground.

"They've got a pretty good list and I think they'll grow."
