AUSTIN Wonaeamirri will make his AFL debut this Sunday for MELBOURNEfc.
Austin, 19, who was elevated to the primary list on Thursday will line up against last years premiers, Geelong, at Skilled Stadium.
Austin was drafted onto the rookie list late last year, originally playing football for St Mary’s in the Northern Territory, and also playing senior football at Norwood in South Australia.
“I’m looking forward to it, I’m not too nervous at the moment, but as the game gets a little closer, I’m sure the nerves will start arriving," Wonaeamirri said on Friday.
“It will be fantastic to play in the same team with blokes like Aaron Davey, David Neitz, Russell Robertson, and Cameron Bruce.
Asked when he found out about his selection, Wonaeamirri said; “I was at training yesterday and the coach came up to me and said I was in, he said I deserved my opportunity, and congratulated me.”
Wonaeamirri joins Jared Rivers and Chris Johnson as the three inclusions into this week’s team, with Isaac Weetra, Jace Bode, and Simon Buckley all being omitted.
Rivers comes into the team after missing a year of football with a groin injury and will be a welcome return to the backline.
Moloney, Buckley, and James Frawley have all been named as the emergencies.
