Geelong captain Steven King believes Hawthorn ruckman Peter Everitt is in All-Australian form and should be given the nod when the side is announced during this year's finals series.

King, who has played just 12 matches this season due achilles and hamstring injuries, said Everitt and Melbourne's Jeff White would be locked in a battle for the number one rucking berth, although he indicated there was room in the best 22 for both players.

"I think he's (Everitt) been the premier ruckman this season, himself probably with Jeff White," King said at Skilled Stadium on Wednesday.

"He's been awesome all year for Hawthorn and it's going to be a challenge I'm really looking forward to this week.

"Just his ability to get his hand on the ball and he's actually dominated games this year and he can go forward and kick goals on you as well and I think he's just really got a great balance in his game and he's really carried Hawthorn this year I think."

King said it was a challenge playing on quality ruck opponents like Everitt and Adelaide's Matthew Clarke, who he took on last weekend, adding that it was important to play on players of that ilk heading into September.

"Definitely, this month has been a pretty big one for myself personally I guess. Fremantle have got (Aaron) Sandilands and Justin Longmuir and last week (it was) Clarke and this week Everitt, so it's a good test personally," King said.

"You're going to have ups-and-downs, but (I'm) just trying to get more game time under my belt and it's just a really good test and I think a good work out coming into the finals."
