After more than two years of careful research, planning and development, the grand new LIONS @ springwood social facility will officially open its doors for members in November.

Brisbane Lions Chief Executive Michael Bowers first publicly announced the concept of developing a more family friendly social club in the southern suburbs back in June of 2008 after identifying the area as having one of the greatest concentrations of Lions members in South-East Queensland.

It therefore made sense to have a presence in the ‘heartland’ of a thriving Lions community.

In October 2008, more than 3,000 Lions fans joined newly appointed Senior Coach Michael Voss and Captain Jonathan Brown to inspect the proposed site and since then the project has gathered momentum. The Lions Board officially gave it the go-ahead from a Club perspective and the Logan City Council’s approval soon followed.

With construction set to be complete in around two months’ time, Lions members will soon get the opportunity to experience their new ‘home’ away from the Gabba for themselves.

The indoor entertainment complex - which is located at the old Ikea site next to Amart at 2 Pannikin Street in Rochedale South - spans 2,290sqm and offers a range of facilities suitable for everyone including families.

Some of the features include: The Jungle alfresco dining area with a giant plasma screen; mouth-watering Caffe Suprimo dining; The Cage TAB and sports bar; The Lair corporate and private function box; live entertainment; weekly competitions; the zilLIONS gaming room with 200 of the latest pokies; and live sport beamed through 100 huge plasma and LCD screens.

The underlying Lions theme will be unmistakable with regular player visits, big-screen match coverage, memorabilia displays and special events all housed within the distinctive maroon, blue and gold walls.

All current Lions members will automatically become members of the new social facility and will receive information on how and when they can collect their membership card in the coming months. Non-members will be able to sign up for life as a social member for just $1.
