Coach Michael Voss said the club would be maintaining its media ban for now, in the wake of the Lara Bingle nude photo scandal.
Voss said the Lions' prized recruit didn’t need to actively promote the clash, suggesting his presence was enough to generate massive interest.
“I think he is” (promoting the game), Voss said.
“I’m not going to justify our decisions in this forum. We think it’s the right way to go and we’ll stick to it.
"He’s carried an emotional load for the last six weeks and I think that we’ve mutually come to the agreement that we believe his footy is now the part that has got to do the talking. That’s what he’s committed to do.”
Voss gave Fevola a positive appraisal for his first official outing in Lions colours, kicking 3.7, gathering 18 disposals and providing plenty of second and third efforts.
“He was very good,” Voss said.
“We had a lot of players that were fantastic. I thought that a lot of our leaders stood up really strongly and everyone had to play a different role at different times.”
Voss was impressed by the range of goalkickers Carlton found in Fevola’s absence, with six multiple goal scorers contributing to their tally of 18 goals in defeating Richmond by 56 points at the MCG last Thursday night.
“They didn’t seem to be affected too much by their scoring power,” Voss said.
“Their defenders are certainly getting more involved in the offensive part of the game.
"Their level of intensity I thought was quite high and their midfielders all joined in as you would expect them to.”
Voss was delighted that the suspended Chris Judd will not take the field at the Gabba on Thursday night, but said there were a host of other talented Carlton goal scorers who needed to be contained.
“It’s going to be a good challenge for our smaller defenders to ensure that (Eddie) Betts and (Chris) Yarran and (Mitch) Robinson and these guys that tend to pop up for their one, two and three goals here and there [are contained]” Voss said.
“I would imagine that as a team they would come up very, very confident that they’ve got the arsenal to be able to beat us.”
